Next, stretch your legs on the historic Busselton Jetty, the longest timber pile jetty in the southern hemisphere, reaching 1.8km out into Geographe Bay. Built way back in 1865 hear stories of how this iconic jetty helped shape the south west as we know it today.
After Busselton we make our way towards the iconic Vasse Felix, Margaret River’s founding wine Estate. Vasse Felix was established in 1967 and its cellar door, restaurant and art gallery take in sweeping views of the region’s oldest vines. Enjoy a guided tasting of their incredible range of wines before sitting down for a three-course lunch and wine, finishing with tea or coffee. With superb hospitality, scenic vineyard vistas and a glass of wine in hand, you’ll discover what makes Margaret River a “wine paradise”.
Check into the five-star Cape Lodge Country House Hotel in the heart of the Margaret River wine region. Run yourself a spa bath or explore the bucolic grounds by wandering the walk trail past vineyards, native Australian bushland and the chef’s kitchen garden. Take a dip in the pool or join other guests in the lounge for drinks.
Dine at the Cape Lodge restaurant, with its exquisite French style cuisine and international wine list.
Evening Meal is at your own expense.
Enjoy a full country style breakfast in the Cape Lodge restaurant from 7:30am. The restaurant overlooks a beautiful lake, surrounded by peppermint trees and home to beautiful native birds and possums.
Your guide collects you at 9am for a day of exploring. We make the journey south through the Margaret River township, past farms and vineyards onto the seaside town of Augusta and Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse. The tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia is one of the very few open to the public, and you can climb the 39m tower for sensational views. We take a guided tour and see the point where the Indian and Southern oceans meet. Keep an eye out for whales – humpbacks, southern right and blue whales – as they migrate between Antarctica and the warmer waters of northern Western Australia.
One of the most stunning forests you’ll visit with many of the Karri trees standing at around 65 metres tall and some trees in the forest reaching over 80 meters. Within the forest we visit the highly decorated Mammoth Cave where Megafauna fossils were found amongst magnificent crystal formations.
A sumptuous wine tasting and four-course degustation awaits at the manicured Voyager Estate. One of the most picture-perfect estates and highly awarded organic vineyards. Be sure to take a photo amongst the rose trellis walk and gardens.
After lunch, we visit the famous Surfers Point, home of the Margaret River Pro, and River Mouth where the Margaret River itself meets the sea. Learn a little of Margaret River’s history old and new.
Return to Cape Lodge.
Evening meal at own expense.
Wake to birdsong, and enjoy a full country style breakfast in the Cape Lodge restaurant.
Around 10am, visit Gabriel’s Chocolate, a family-owned bean-to-bar chocolate maker, whose talents extend to ice cream, chewy choc chip cookies and hot chocolate drinks. Their single-origin chocolate bars are divine and make an excellent gift, if you don’t eat them yourself on the journey home!
Take a scenic walk – Admire the superb Yallingup coastline at Canal Rocks; water surges through a natural channel in the 600-million-year-old granite.
Vasse Virgin – Another family owned business specialising in Extra Virgin Olive Oil. They also make a dizzying array of olive products; soaps, lip balms, oils, tapenades and more. Again, there are lovely gift packs if you’re looking for something special to take home.
Finally, Aravina Estate is the perfect place to farewell the beautiful Margaret River Region with a two-course lunch on the Hamptons-style deck. Taste their wines – an impressive range of varieties including a lovely Blanc de Blanc – then browse the sports car collection and surf gallery which documents the region’s illustrious surfing history.
After an incredible lunch at Aravina we drive through wine and dairy country and Australian bushland on the way home to your Perth hotel. Arriving back in Perth between 5:30 & 6:00pm.
