The Marlborough region in the northeastern corner of the South Island is blessed with New Zealand’s highest amount of sunshine each year.
Marlborough region of New Zealand extends from Kaikoura on the east coast, to the Marlborough Sounds, and includes the main towns of Blenheim and Picton.
Centred on Blenheim is New Zealand’s most extensive wine-growing region. With over 4,000 hectares of grapes planted and almost 300 grape growers, this area is best known for Sauvignon Blanc. The vignerons are also justly proud of their Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Pinot Gris. In recent years Marlborough has also become recognised as a region that produces wine in the Methode Traditionelle style. Along with the wineries, Marlborough has a reputation for gourmet foods and seafood produce.
